A Rule is a reusable expression in Sift that identifies a defined condition in telemetry, such as a limit violation, a state change, or a known error message. It captures an engineering check that can be evaluated consistently against relevant data.
Sift Rules turn engineering criteria into automated telemetry checks. Engineers select input Channels, define the condition to detect, and preview the result against recorded Runs. Evaluating the Rule in a Report creates Annotations for detected events.
Rules can be reused in Report Templates for automated test data review, with version history tracking changes to their logic. For live monitoring, engineers can configure supported Rules with webhook alerts that notify another system when a condition is violated or resolved during ingestion.
