What is hardware regression testing?

Hardware regression testing checks whether a change to hardware, firmware, software, or configuration has introduced an unintended change in system behavior. Teams repeat relevant tests and compare results with a trusted baseline and defined acceptance criteria.

How hardware regression testing works in Sift

Sift compares new test data with a selected baseline Run or a group of historical Runs called a Family. Engineers align signals around a shared event, inspect differences in Explore, and use Family statistics to define expected behavior over time.

Family Rules evaluate a completed Run against those historical statistics and flag deviations for review. After a controller update, for example, an engineer could compare motor current during acceleration against a baseline built from representative prior tests. This provides a repeatable way to investigate changes in signal behavior after a design or configuration change.
